Ernesto che Guevara, 80 years later

    The man who was to make "che" famous all over the world, the leader of the guerrilla movement in Bolivia, the doctor whose compassion for the situation of the poor and deprived in Argentina and Latin America led him to travel around the continent, the Argentine who helped Fidel Castro construct socialism in Cuba, will be the subject of debate in his native town of Rosario, Argentina, next month.

    On the 80th anniversary of his birth, there will be panel discussions, documentary films, photographic exhibitions, talks, concerts, exposion of drawings, workshops and other activities. A sculpture in his name will be unveiled on a downtown square.

    "We want to the image, the legacy, the trajectory and the struggle of Che Guevara," said Rosario Mayor Miguel Lifschitz, during a press conference, according to Clarín.

     The series of events will be launched on the 13th at 8 p.m. in the Teatro El Círculo de Rosario, with the projection of a video and a panel discussion. Among those present: Santa Fe governor, Socialist Hermes Binner, Lifshitz and Cuban ambassador Fuentes Hernández. The panel discussion will include: Osdvasldo Bayer, Cuban poet Miguel Barnet and Santa Fe movie maker Fernando Birri.
