"Zombienation" (Hail to the Führer) at the 10th International Horror Movie Festival
Half of Buenos Aires has broken out in a sweat with the temperature sliding above 30 degrees. O.K. But inside the theatre at 780 Lavalle street, a cold sweat has sent the shivers down the young and mostly flexible spines of some 50 youths. You can see them practice their kissing styles as they await the showing of "Zombienation," a particularly cult film that takes its clue from a scientist who absconds with the body of Adolf Hitler. (The young man next to me keeps his hand on his honey’s leg throughout this horror film, as if to nullify his fear).
The event? The "10° Festival Internacional de cine de Terror, Fantásticco y Bizarro."
The idea of "Zombienation" is that the scientist manages to bring Hitler back to life but the Führer escapes and fills the world smack full of (more bloodthirsty zombies than already abound). Who are the heroes? A former military man, a scientist and his assistant. There’s a logic to that, isn’t there?
Don’t worry if you find it a bit difficult to follow the plot. It’s the actions that count, the effects, the spilling of blood, the animalish grunts, the gushing sound of warm blood spurting out of recently cut arteries. With at least one innocent love making scene. Oh. The heroes manage to survive as sound as newborn babies. As for the music, you might thank the "Rendentor de Almas" band. And if you’ve got the stomach for this kind of mindless violence, you might come back for more--tomorrow, Saturday, Sunday and Monday at Lavalle 780.
