Barry Kornhauser, a playwrite and director of Millersville University's Ware Center in Lancaster, Pennyslvania, will receive the Children´s Theatre Foundation of America's Orlin Corey Medallion in a ceremony in Denver, Colorado on August 1. Although the award came as a surprise to Barry, he has dedicated his life to theatre for youth as playwrite, educator and administrator. He has long been respected for his imagination and storytelling genius.
He has been working for the Fulton Theatre in Lancaster for the past 30 years, and likewise has been working intensely with children via the Youtheatre. Kids work creating plays and then under Barry's guidance stage them. Youtheatre, which won the Coming Up Taller Award in 2008, is but one of Barry's activities. He has written more than 30 plays. Kornhauser studied anthropology, psychology and teaching before falling in love with theatre.
